11-12:30p Laura Scarborough of HoopCircle Do it Yourself! Make Your Own HOOP! I make and sell hoops because I want everyone to have one – but I absolutely encourage anyone with time to make their own. Materials Fee $20 My world includes daily hoop practice. I also try to bike, swim, or run everyday. I did my first triathlon in 2008 on my 34th birthday. It was an awesome experience. I was never into sports or was a “fit” kid. My booty lived on the piano bench. Hooping brought me into this new awareness and confidence in myself and in my body. It made me stronger and made me believe that “I can do it!” and I did!!
1-2:30p Christine Terrellof Adaptive ReUse Transform Old Tins Into Jewelry Watch as lifeless, old cookie tins are ripped apart before your very eyes and re-imagined into lovely, lightweight pieces of jewelry. Be astounded by the use of common, inexpensive tools to create objects of extraordinary beauty. Delight in the opportunity to create your own one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Amaze your friends with your newfound upcycling prowess. Christine Terrell creates new lives for lonely and abandoned decorative tins by transforming them into contemporary art jewelry. Each piece is hand crafted, one-of-a-kind, and filled with wearable whimsy.
4-5:30p Susan Alexander-Wilson of YarnBar Start Knitting Now – make your own needles, make your own yarn, and cast on. We’ll make our own knitting needles and learn what can be used for needles in a pinch. We’ll learn to upcycle tshirts into a quick-to-knit yarn and, if time allows, we’ll cast on with our new supplies. Susan has been creating with yarn since Great Aunt Ouida taught her to crochet when she was 10. Susan learned to knit about 9 years ago and has been sharing the goodness ever since, teaching anyone who will let her. It’s a craft for the people.
