Media Corps (MC) teaches students the basics of computer hardware refurbishing, graphic and web design, computer programming, and video shooting and editing. The goal of MC is to introduce young people to creative technology tools, while exposing them to the vast career opportunities in Austin’s tech industry. Local professionals from various technology fields volunteer in the classroom, speaking to students about their education and career paths, and invite students to visit their place of work. Visiting tech companies greatly increases students’ awareness of the types of jobs available in the technology field. In addition to improving career development our students serve their local community by refurbishing computers and donating them to low-income families to help close the digital divide in their neighborhoods.
