UT Austin created an innovative, lower-cost engineering design and problem solving curriculum for high schools called Engineer Your World (EYW), with the generous support of the National Science Foundation (NSF). EYW is being taught to 3000 students across the US today as a year-long course. Based on the knowledge gained from the course, we are happy to share research on the course and successful engineering lessons to educators and the public. More high schools can adopt the curriculum with support from a grant covering partial cost of materials and teacher professional development. EYW is NSF-sponsored and aligns with state and national standards. It features themes designed to develop a narrative of engineering and its role in shaping the world, with examples ranging from the personal to the global and beyond. Come learn about the themes and units of Engineer Your World, tips for teaching engineering design to high schoolers, and the steps a school may take to bring the course to its campus.
